Nadal’s fear of losing his confidence in the recent past has come true. Before coming on to this tournament he has stated that he is now feeling nervous before matches. And to make matters worse, Nadal has lost before quarter finals on 4 occasions in the last 4 Wimbledon. Dustin Brown’s serve and volley game has been tormenting Nadal right from the start. And the serve by the German was indeed threatening.
Nadal has in fact, lost twice in Grass to Dustin Brown, the last meeting was way back in 2014 in Halle. What makes this victory so sweet for Dustin is the fact that he has to go through 3 qualifying matches before the first round. Dustin now will at least take back 77,000 pounds as winnings from the Wimbledon this year. And if he wins his next round and moves further in the draw, then his winnings will mount greatly.
The German was particularly good at the net. He would serve and move to the net quickly. He exhibited a perfect serve and volley, which is not seen these days. But the German’s 89 advances to the net were instrumental in breaking Nadal’s rhythm. He will now meet 32 year old Victor Troicki in the round of 32.
